LIT & CIT at Camp Shelanu

Leadership-in-Training (LIT) Program

The LIT program at Camp Shelanu is a leadership development program designed to empower teens to effectively lead on youth group boards, in classrooms at religious schools, at Camp Shelanu, and in other roles around the Jewish and non-Jewish communities.

Teens entering 8th-10th grades in the fall are eligible to apply for the LIT program, a 2-week session that includes games, activities, team-building exercises, real experience with campers, and workshops on various topics focusing on leadership skills. Teens are accepted based on their ability to interact with younger children at Camp Shelanu and on leadership potential and maturity.

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program

CITs will plan and implement weekly programs for younger campers, get hands-on experience working with the younger age groups, and receive coaching and feedback.  This program is not only excellent preparation to apply as a Camp Shelanu counselor, but also a valuable “pre-job” experience for any teen looking to gain leadership, responsibility, communication and job skills.  Community Service Hours are available!
